Police were already searching for a vehicle driving in the wrong lane Saturday when that car crashed into a charter bus carrying Covington Catholic High School students, officials said Monday.

The crash on Saturday killed the driver of the car, Eric Clos, 39, of Brooksville, Kentucky.

At 6:55 a.m., police were told of a vehicle with one working headlight traveling in the wrong lane, police said. Officers were dispatched to the area.

Around 7 a.m., the vehicle collided with the bus, which was traveling back to Covington from Washington D.C. carrying students and chaperones who attended the March for Life.

Clos was trapped in the car and declared dead at the scene, officials said.

The driver of the bus and two of the passengers were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Fort Thomas for treatment of minor injuries.

Police reported that Gold Shield Transportation operated the charter bus. Several transportation companies registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration have names similar to this. All have “satisfactory” safety ratings.

Campbell County police are continuing to investigate the crash.
