INDEPENDENCE, Ky. —
Police are sharing more details about a double murder-suicide that unfolded in Independence last weekend.
The shooting happened along Regal Ridge Drive, just off Taylor Mill Road late Sunday night.
Independence police say they responded to the Taylor Ridge Apartments at 11:21 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers say they found a man outside the apartments with an apparent gunshot wound.
Officials say the man was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He died the next day from his injuries, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office. He has been identified as 33-year-old Daylon Bradford.
Officers were told on scene a suspect and a woman fled to the nearby woods. A perimeter was quickly established, before K-9 units and drones were deployed in the area.
Around 1 a.m. Monday, police say shots were heard in the area. SWAT was then called to the scene.
Police say drones eventually located heat signatures in the woods, where a man and a woman were found dead around 3 a.m.
Officers say the man, who was the suspect, is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He has been identified as 34-year-old Donald Bryant. The woman found dead has been identified as 24-year-old Heaven Glisson.
In an update on Friday, police said Glisson called officers last Friday to report her ex-boyfriend, Bryant, showed up at her home and refused to leave. She said he had a knife and was threatening to hurt himself.
When officers arrived, Bryant denied having a knife but admitted to making threats to hurt himself.
Police said “Bryant was not arrested for Criminal Trespass first because it is no longer an arrestable offense under state law unless you meet certain criteria which this case did not meet.” Independence police said officers encouraged Glisson to file a protective order.
